Sophora prostrata, commonly known as Dwarf Kōwhai, is a dense, tangled native shrub with distinctive wiry branches and sparse foliage. In late spring it produces small, hidden yellow flowers that provide an important nectar source for native birds and a valuable food source for bees. A slower growing Kowhai, exceptionally hardy thriving in exposed, cold, and dry conditions, making it an excellent choice for low maintenance gardens, native plantings, and landscape projects.
