Supporting New Zealand's Restoration Journey

For many years, Orari Nursery has supplied hardy New Zealand native plants for environmental restoration, riparian planting, shelterbelts, biodiversity projects and landscaping throughout Canterbury and across New Zealand.

We work alongside councils, contractors, farmers, environmental organisations and community groups to supply plants that are grown for New Zealand conditions and built to thrive once planted.

Every project is different, but our goal remains the same: providing quality native plants that help restore landscapes and create healthier environments for future generations.

South Canterbury Braided River Project

One of the significant restoration programmes we've proudly supported is the South Canterbury Braided River Project, delivered through the Government's Jobs for Nature programme.

Orari Nursery supplied native plants to help restore some of South Canterbury's most important braided river ecosystems, contributing to long-term environmental improvements across the region.

The project focused on restoring habitats throughout the:

• Waitaki River
• Ashburton River / Hakatere
• Stour River
• Ōpihi River
• Tengawai River
• Upper Rangitata catchment

Work included native planting, habitat restoration, wetland enhancement, weed control and protecting habitat for threatened native wildlife, including braided river bird species.

Although the Jobs for Nature programme concluded in 2026, the restoration work continues to benefit Canterbury's waterways and native ecosystems for years to come.
