Prumnopitys taxifolia, commonly known as Mataī, is a slow growing, long lived native conifer prized for its elegant form and attractive foliage. Juvenile stage with bronze, reddish foliage turning dark green on maturity develops into a majestic forest tree with dark green leaves and distinctive blue black berries with bright red fleshy stalks that are enjoyed by native birds. Mataī is an excellent choice for native revegetation, shelter planting, lifestyle blocks, and long term landscape projects. Once established, it is hardy and well suited to a range of New Zealand conditions.
