Olearia macrodonta, commonly known as NZ Holly, is a hardy New Zealand native evergreen tree recognised for its distinctive large, toothed leaves with silvery undersides. It is an excellent choice for shelter belts, revegetation projects, riparian planting, native gardens, and large scale landscaping. Naturally found in cooler and upland regions of New Zealand, Mountain Akeake is well adapted to exposed sites, wind, and frost. Its dense foliage provides excellent shelter while the clusters of fragrant white flowers attract bees and other beneficial pollinators.
